In 1893 Sherwin-Williams advertising manager George Ford first sketched the Cover the Earth logo, a prophecy of Sherwin-Williams paint—vomited on us all.
The spill was intended to symbolize abundance and dominance according to Ford, insisting Sherwin wasn’t just selling paint but rather submerging the world in it. Showing the prescience of Nostradamus, their discharge now covers the earth.
Like the time EPA inspected Sherwin’s Stage Coach Trail manufacturing facility in Greensboro, North Carolina and found open drums of hazardous waste. The $47,500 fine is a drop in the bucket, already filled with more than $12 million Sherwin has paid the EPA in environmental fines over the last decade.
In Century IV Quatrain 11, Nostradamus warns of the “twelve red ones.” Scholars believe them a board of Cardinals—their red galeros intact while their humanity is askew. “Meurtre se verra commis,” Nostradamus warned from the Renaissance. Murder shall be seen committed.
Which may end up to be prophetic, even if there’s only nine red ones.
Blah Blah
By the standard of the reporting I have planned for next week, my conversation about plant-based coatings and sustainability with Gary Dandreaux was banal. Monty, that means it was really boring.
But only by that standard. Absent my current level of anticipation you should still enjoy it, as Gary does an excellent job of explaining how paint can even be made from plants. And we had time to discuss sustainability, but blah blah blah is all that I remember now.
And after next week, you’ll understand my fog.
